| Finding a food 'safe' plastic is not an easy task. Many plastics that were thought to be safe five or ten years ago are now known to leach chemicals that can cause damage at the cellular level if used over an extended period of time. A coffee maker is often used daily and comes into contact with near boiling water upon every use. All the parts of this coffee maker that come into contact with water are composed of stainless steel. This prevents the leaching of plastics into your perfect cup of coffee. All other percolating coffee makers that use a paper filter always seem to have plastic parts. |  |

Permanent metal filters often allow coffee grinds through which are left at the bottom of your cup. They tend to be difficult to clean between uses. Paper filters absorb the oily substance that contain cafestol, a potent stimulator of LDL cholesterol levels which have been said to have negative health impacts. Lastly, paper filters can easily be composted. We prefer using the un-bleached, basket-type coffee filters as seen on the left. |

| Filter baskets on coffeemakers are often difficult to clean due to ridges or because of their material composition. Coffee filter water reservoirs are often difficult to clean out as they don't come apart from the rest of the coffee maker and often build up calcium residues when hard water is used. |

The filter basket and reservoir are stainless steel and wash up nicely whenever they need cleaning. Simply remove the reservoir or filter basket from the frame to rinse with soap and water. | |

The reservoir holds enough water for one cup of coffee. You simply use a kettle to get the water to an appropriate temperature, fill with water and gravity does the rest. There is no need to wait around to add more water every couple of minutes. Many pour over filters will dilute the concentration of coffee if the water is added all at once and is allowed to filter through within a minute. A single cup takes less than 5 minutes to brew. We have found this speed to create the best coffee possible. The reservoir will dispense an optimal amount of water into the filter basket for a perfect cup of coffee every time! |
