Black Copper Maran Chickens
Black Copper Marans are an excellent dual purpose breed that are fast growing and good egg layers. They are cold hardy, do well in free-range environments and while the odd rooster may be slightly aggressive, this breed is generally calm, quiet and easy to handle, especially for their size.
Easy to Care For
Black Copper Marans are a great backyard bird that are easy to care for. Provide a nestbox for hens and 3-4 square feet per bird or more for the run.
Protein enriched food is best and always ensure they have access to clean water and fresh air. Clean their living space on a consistent basis. An insulated area is recommended for chickens and they often require a heat source during the winter months.
Dark Coloured Eggs
Copper Maran hens produce 150-200 large, dark and sometimes speckled eggs per year that are said to be the darkest-colorer eggs of any chicken breed. The fewer eggs a hen lays, the darker the eggs.
